Four Ways to Dye Easter Eggs
Dying Eggs With Rice
This technique is great for little ones wanting to participate in the crafting with big sis. With only a few items needed, you may even be able to do this technique with items you already have at home!
What You’ll Need:
- 6 cups of uncooked dry rice
- Food coloring GEL – make sure you get gel instead of regular food coloring. The rice will absorb the liquid food coloring almost immediately
- Gallon size Ziploc baggies
- Hard boiled eggs
- Straws
Directions:
- Place 1 cup of dried rice into the Ziploc bag
- Squeeze 3 drops or more of food coloring into the Ziploc bag
- Using the straw, mix the gel color in so it coats the rice
- Place the hard-boiled egg on the rice
- Zip up the bag and shake it all around! Just be sure not to crack the egg against a hard surface
Dying Eggs With Rubber Bands
If you’re dying eggs last minute or are short on time, this is the perfect technique for you. With only four items needed for this technique (most you can find around the house), it’s a super simple way to make unique and vibrant eggs.
What You’ll Need:
- Hard Boiled Eggs
- Easter egg dye kit
- Rubber bands of different widths
- Plastic Spoons
Directions:
- Wrap the rubber bands around the eggs. Try to combine different thicknesses and directions
- Using the plastic spoons, dip the eggs in dye as usual
- Re-dip for multi-colored eggs
- Take the rubber bands off and admire your beautiful work
This technique is perfect for the our #BISBYgirl that loves glitter, glam, and all things fabulous! This technique uses plastic easter eggs instead of hard-boiled eggs so you can use them in your Easter egg hunt. You could even have the glitter eggs contain special prizes inside for added fun! We would recommend this craft for the older #BISBYgirl because it can get quite messy and take some time. For an extra bright egg, match the color of the glitter with the color of the egg.
What You’ll Need
- Mod Podge
- Fine Glitter in a few different colors
- Paintbrush
- Spoon
- Paper bowl
- Plastic Easter eggs
Directions
- Cover one half of the egg in Mod Podge
- Place a paper bowl under the egg and cover this same half with glitter using the plastic spoon. The paper bowl will catch extra glitter for you to use again
- Once the bottom half of egg is completely covered in glitter, let it dry for 10-15 minutes
- Repeat this process for the other half of the egg
Marbled Easter Eggs
For bright and beautiful Easter eggs, try this technique that uses shaving cream to create that marbleized look. The more food coloring you use, the brighter your eggs will be. Feel free to dip your eggs in multiple colors for funky, swirled patterns.
What You’ll Need
- Baking sheet
- Hard-boiled eggs
- Shaving cream
- Food coloring
- Toothpick
- Rubber gloves
Directions
- Fill the baking sheet with 1 inch of shaving cream
- Drip food coloring onto the cream. The more color food coloring you use, the brighter your eggs will be
- Use a tooth pick to swirl and marble your food coloring droplets
- Put the rubber gloves on and roll it in the cream covering it completely
- Wipe the remaining cream off with a paper towel to reveal your marbleized egg
